Citizen Impact Organization (CIO) says lack of career guidance among youths in the country is preventing them from pursuing their desired careers.
CIO Executive Director, Chimwemwe Banda, made the remarks recently during a career guidance and role modelling session at Likoma Secondary School.
She said scores of youths fail to make rational decisions about their careers and future due to lack of career guidance.
“Most youths do not have clear goals in life as they lack career guidance. That is why some of them just indulge in anti-social behaviour,” she said.
She, therefore, underscored the need to give youths the right career guidance for them to achieve their career goals.
“We need to encourage youths to invest their time in activities that will help push their careers,” she said.
In his words, Member of Parliament (MP) for Likoma and Chizumulu Islands, Ashems Songwe—who was also the guest of honor—encouraged the students to work hard in their studies and avoid peer pressure.
“Time wasted can never be regained. If you want to get educated, you must use your time wisely and embrace hard work,” he said.
Deputy Head teacher for Likoma Secondary School, Peter Nkhata, applauded CIO for the session, saying it will help the students a lot.
“Our students have been inspired. I hope they will refrain from behavior that might ruin their future. They will focus on their goals,” he said.
The session was organised as part of the organization’s ‘Educational Initiative’ which, inter alia, focuses on helping youths get educated and be economically independent.
Apart from Likoma Secondary School, CIO also visited all other schools—both primary and secondary—in the district.
